The Art Scene Group is committed to environmental best practice and the prevention of pollution in its operations. Through the philosophy of “reduce, reuse and recycle”, we continually improve our business performance and conduct operations in an environmentally responsible manner, reflecting our commitment to the sustainable use of the earth’s resources.
We comply with all relevant Australian Government environmental legislation, regulations, and policies. In fulfilling our obligations, we aim to:
1. Minimise Environmental Impact
Minimise environmental impact by incorporating environmental considerations into management and procurement decisions.
2. Work with Responsible Partners
Continuously collaborate with suppliers, manufacturers, and partners to improve environmental best practices and operational processes.
3. Source Ethical & Sustainable Suppliers
We prioritise suppliers who actively reduce their carbon footprint and develop environmentally responsible packaging solutions.
Most suppliers use recyclable or recycled materials. Wood used in production or packaging comes from sustainable forestry and is certified under:
- FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)
- PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification)
We also support paper merchants accredited with:
- Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS)
- Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
- Well Managed Forests (WMF)
4. Use Eco-Friendly Packaging
Where practical and efficient, we use environmentally friendly packing materials such as:
- Calico shoulder bags
- Recycled Kraft paper bags
- Cardboard boxes instead of plastic
5. Responsible Energy Use
We ensure responsible energy usage across the business by:
- Using energy-efficient equipment (printers, computers, photocopiers)
- Installing solar power in selected locations
- Using energy-efficient lighting in stores and warehouses
6. Reduce Waste & Landfill Impact
We continuously improve processes to reduce waste and dispose of materials responsibly. This includes:
- Reusing outer boxes and packaging materials
- Using recycled newspapers for packaging
- Reusing pallets for storage and dispatch
- Donating unused pallets for reuse
- Recycling unused boxes through reuse programs
- Sending non-reusable paper and cardboard for recycling
- Minimising landfill waste as much as possible
- Encouraging double-sided printing
- Providing recycling bins across all locations
- Recycling printer and copier cartridges
- Recycling glass waste through specialist companies
- Maximising use of mouldings and timber
- Making wooden crates available for public reuse
